120th IIC – Manchester, England

Dear Grand Masters, Masters, Instructors and Students,

It is with great pleasure and an honour to invite you to the 120th International Instructor Course to be held in Manchester England.

The IIC will be held from the afternoon of Friday 7th July 2017 to the afternoon of Sunday 9th July 2017 and will be conducted by the ITF Technical Committee consisting of:

Grand Master Hector Marano, IX degree, Argentina;
Grand Master Ung Kim Lan, IX degree, Germany; and,
Master Pierre Laquerre, VIII degree, Canada.

The IIC will be held at the Armitage Centre, University of Manchester, Gunnery Lane, off Moseley Road, Fallowfield Manchester M14 6HE, which is the University of Manchester’s main sports facility, accommodating many of the sports provided by the University.

The IIC is open to all ITF members from 1st degree to 9th degree.

Accommodation is available in the many hotels in the nearby city centre. In addition, there is the possibility of staying in adjacent student accommodation run by the University of Manchester.

Places on the IIC will be limited so book early to avoid disappointment and to guarantee places.

The event is organised by Taekwon-do UK (T-UK) on behalf of ITF England with local assistance from the T-UK clubs in Manchester.

Scottish Championships 2017

Happy New Year!
 
It is with pleasure we invite you and your students to the 2017 ITF Scottish Championships, to be held in Motherwell, Scotland on 25th & 26th February.
 
Saturday 25th – Competitors aged 14 & over
Sunday 26th – Competitors aged 13 & under
 
This year all applications should be made online via www.handlesport.com.  Instructors only should make the applications on behalf of the school/students.  Deadline for competitors registrations is 15th February @ 23:59 hours. Strictly no applications will be allowed after this date.  Draws will be available from 18th February.
A full guide on how to register and complete the registration process is attached.  
 
Also attached you will find the event poster, full invitation and individual application form, which can be distributed to your students.

National Team Selections

15401029_10154916223516414_2154616587457188993_nThe selections for the national team to represent Scotland at the 2017 AETF European Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria were contested on Sunday 11th December in Livingston.

There were 54 athletes in attendance, all with one aim, representing their country on the big stage.  

The successful candidates will be notified in due course.

December’s Instructors Course

15252488_10154883372786414_6043670733159456069_oThe second Instructors training course of 2016 took place on Saturday 3rd December, in Perth, at the University Campus.  

The participants were split in to two groups for the day, which each taking part in two sessions.  The instructors course itself led by Master Campins and Master McNairn, and the other, the Child Protection Course’s led by Miss Angela Lindie.  

Those on the level 1 course, completed the Basic Cold Protection Course, whilst those on level 2 completed the course on Child Protection in Social Media Course.

This course is open to 3rd Kups and above, aged 16 and over.

The course will include instructor qualification, child protection qualification and first aid qualification (where available) necessary to teach classes within ITF Scotland.

                                   If you have not yet completed course 1, you must do this level before progressing to level 2.

Instructors Course Level 1

Course Content:    Course 1 is an introductory level module designed for all those involved in teaching ITF Taekwon-Do to children and/or adults.  Whether teaching small groups in class or managing a full time Taekwon-Do school, course 1 offers essential information and advice relating to –

 

  • Administration – book-keeping, attendance records, members’ records/data protection.
  • Insurance – public liability, members’ insurance, competition insurance.
  • Qualifications – Taekwon-Do qualifications, first aid, PVG, Instructor qualifications.
  • Teaching practices – safety/risk assessments, inclusion, ethics & standards.

Course Content:    Course 2 will build on some of the topics introduced in course 1, mainly focusing on Tracking and Monitoring students’ progress; while looking at theories behind different methods of assessments and how these can be implemented in practical terms.  It will continue to explore how Instructors and coaches create meaningful and manageable learning experiences for different age groups and levels of ability.

ITF Scotland AGM 2016

img_4567ITF Scotland held its Annual General Meeting on Saturday 5th November.  The venue was the historic town of Bannockburn in Stirling, site of the historic battle of independence in 1314.

During the AGM the board reviewed the activity to date of 2016, as well as outlined the planned calendar for 2017/2018.  There was also a presentation from Jane Harvey regarding the work of the newly Government Recognised SCoT, of which ITF Scotland are a full member. 

This year concluded the tenure of the board, with elections for a new board moving forward to the new term.  Grand Master MacCallum thanked the outgoing board for their work throughout 2015/2016, developing ITF Scotlands national courses, tournaments and structure.  He also thanked Mr. Condie for the work put into the development of SCoT and gaining government recognition for Taekwon-Do in Scotland.

World Cup 2016 Results

Screenshot-2015-07-14-23.37.53-1024x715The 6th edition of the ITF World Cup, was held from 12th – 16th October in Budapest, Hungary.  

The World Cup is the largest international club tournament in the ITF, open to Blue, Red & Black Belts.  The event is held every two years, with previous hosts, Montego Bay, Jamaica (2014), Brighton, England (2012), Riva Del Garda, Italy (2008), Benidorm, Spain (2006) and Orlando, United States (2004) , 

This year a record 1852 competitors took part from 236 clubs in 58 countries. 72 of those competitors were from Scotland’s schools; ABC, GMAC, NTA & Scotia. screen-shot-2016-11-06-at-22-34-53
A number of medals were won over the 5 day event, with a special mention to Northern Taekwon-Do Academies who placed 5th overall in the Medal Classification for Schools, achieving 5 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze.  Overall Scotland placed 11th in the Medal Classification for country with 6 Gold, 4 Silver and 6 Bronze.

The 2018 World Cup, will take place in Australia’s Gold Coast.

National Team Training – 6th November

National SquadThe next two dates for National Squad Training will take place at Armadale Academy, 11.00am – 2.00pm, on the following dates –

 

  • Sunday the 6th of November
  • Sunday the 27th of November

 

These sessions are held in preparation for the European Championships (Bulgaria Apr 2017) & World Championships (Ireland – Oct 2017).

The sessions are open to all Junior, Teens & Seniors.  Cost £10.00

 

Also, a quick reminder that our selection event for the 2017 European Championships will take place on Sunday the 11th of December. Times & venue to be confirmed shortly.
